Yeah, when I’m cutting I’ll do a fuck load of seitan, cut out the rice and have 300g of broccoli, with a flavoured with a ton of spices. Genuinely tasty and something I enjoy, cutting doesn’t need to be punishment.
Carbs are required for muscle building.
I go with beans. You get carbs and nutrients.

Everyone has different nutritional needs. If you’re doing chicken broccoli rice, it’s probably because it’s much easier to measure out an exact amount of macronutrients to fit your needs and fill up the rest on broccoli to make it as satiating as needed.

I never understood why all the gym people I see in work seem to eat food with the flavour removed, like some paprika or pepper might ruin everything.
From personal experience its because we like food way to much. Its harder to eat less when the food tastes good. I found it was much easier when I treated food like an activity I had to force myself to do. I’d just cook some meat and boil some mixed veggies and then force it down. I was eating like 200-500g of pasta and almost a kg of food for dinner I felt so fucking sick after every meal.
At that point even if I seasoned the chicken I was so sick of it that I would still not enjoy it.

There is a big gap between eating like shit and putting some pepper on your chicken. If you literally can’t control yourself around food that is a problem and creating unhealthy eating habits to avoid that problem isn’t the solution… Unless you plan on forcing yourself to eat flavourless food for the rest of your life.

Again putting seasoning on your food isn’t a complicated process, and forcing yourself to eat flavourless food every single day is definitely unhealthy. If you really struggle with self control around food then speak with someone about that problem instead; imagine eating tasty, healthy food in moderation.
I cook well if I’m wanting to cook a nice meal, however thats not what’s happening here I’m just trying to hit my macros for the day. A bit of salt or pepper isnt going to do shit to improve the meal. Its not even flavourless, it tastes like chicken and veggies. If I dont care about the meal why should i waste any extra time preparing the meal?
When I’m trying to maintain weight then I can enjoy food and eat normally. But cutting/bulking you got to be strict otherwise youre just dragging things out longer than they need to be. When you have fat person eating habits your entire life requires an eating disorder to counteract it.

I have eaten like this before. Food is fuel and construction material. I need the nutrition to operate my body. Nothing more. The less I think about what it tastes like the more I can think about it as numbers on a spreadsheet.
That being said if I were OP I’d invest in a slow cooker and yes, some paprika. Maybe some dehydrated garlic, cumin, and cayenne as well. This exact dish would be much more appealing if the chicken were shredded and it was in a bowl on top of the rice and broccoli.

Theres a gym bro at my work who eats the same meals everyday. Its something like plain oatmeal, protein shake, boiled chicken, greek yogurt. Every day, no seasoning, all plain and boring. He was complaining to me that he has to almost force himself to eat sometimes and im just thinking like “yeah no shit, you eat wall paste every meal”.
I mean i meal prep my lunches, been over 10 years, updated it once recently. Rice, refried black beans, corn, sweet onion, green pepper. Everyday for lunch. I think it’s tasty and being able to eat the same thing everyday for years is what makes me a great partner lol
See, that makes sense to me. Its not like your eating that for every meal so you still get variety. And you don’t have to think about lunch when getting ready for work/school or whatnot.

I was 6 ft and 200 lbs. Not obese by any stretch. Trying to lose the dad bod and get back to where I was before I retired from field work.
My goal is to actually be leaner than that, now that I actually have time to pay attention to fitness and diet.
I’ll tell you that for most people it’s less about food intake and more about physical exertion.
I’m not saying eat cake for every meal but as long as you’re burning more calories than you’re taking in that’s all that matters unless you have underlying health conditions. Keep being you but just exert yourself more. Work until failure.

This is absolutely terrible advice. It takes an insane amount of physical activity to burn the calories of a meal, and being in a deficit will make you feel hungry regardless.
The majority of people need to worry about putting down their fork, not doing more physical activities
Like 10% of our calories that we burn come from exercise - the rest is just keeping the lights on, so if you want to be in a deficit, you need to eat less.

I think the person you’re replying to is arguing that whilst exercise can have myriad health benefits, that when it comes to weight loss, it’s more practical to focus on one’s diet. I also hold that view, and it seems to be the consensus amongst weight loss specialists. You can’t outrun a bad diet when the difficulty of burning calories is so much higher than the ease of consuming calories. If someone who wanted to lose weight was going to focus on either changing their diet, or increasing their activity level, then diet is the sensible choice.
Of course, framing it like that is a bit of a false dichotomy, because the health benefits associated with exercise are so significant that I’ve seen some research that suggests it may be healthier to be fat and fit than to be at a healthy weight and unfit/sedentary. Personally, I struggled with disordered eating for many years, but I was finally able to lose weight in a healthy way after I started powerlifting. The impact was mostly one of morale: whilst the increased muscle mass and activity level increased the number of maintenance calories I needed, it wasn’t too huge of an impact when compared to how much I was eating before. What actually changed was how I felt about my body, and how I thought about food, as well as my overall energy levels.
Actively exercising only burns slightly more calories than just sitting around existing does.
CICO works to an extent, but human bodies are shockingly efficient machines. What you eat is important, why and how you eat are important. Losing weight and keeping it off can be hard.
Adding exercise is great for a lot of reasons. If you aren’t getting regular exercise you really should. But one of those reasons is certainly not weight loss. You might even gain weight.

I can’t get over the broccoli portion!! I eat 20 times that!
Once during the early pandemic, I inadvertently received 12 pounds of frozen broccoli from a grocery delivery (~5,5 kilos). I have never been too full for a piece of broccoli, and didn’t have the space in my freezer for all of it, so I decided to make a huge amount and see how much I could actually eat.
I made 6 pounds (roasted with spices and a little olive oil) and ate it all without issue. I honestly could have eaten more, but I was a little worried about causing myself digestive issues. I didn’t have any, even though doing the math, I was over 4% broccoli afterwards.
I’m cutting as well, and this plate is scarily similar to where I’ve landed for my meal prep. Pretty much chicken and rice, but I at least do a rub or marinade.
I mean, boiled breast? Eeewww! There are so many other better ways of making it!
