It was an entertaining 10 minutes of looking through the outfits, there wasn’t much I liked h this year but fashion is a perfectly valid interest.

Museums and art are important. It’s a big successful fundraiser for art historians, and in that respect I think it’s great. Vibes-wise it’s fucking rancid though. An indulgent, tone deaf celebration of wealth that ultimately benefits a good cause.

We could raise money for art without decadent rich people parties if we just like stopped hoovering up all the money and giving it to rich people.

I’m sorry, but I do not think that raising money for high fashion is in any way important given the current problems the world is facing. It’s like asking for donations for fancy new curtains while your fucking house is on fire.

We do not need high fashion to survive. If every fashion designer dropped dead tomorrow, I promise you society would not crumble. We need healthcare. We need housing. We need our basic fucking needs met. Until that time, I will call events like this a collosal waste of time and money.

It’s not raising money “for high fashion”, it’s raising money for the art historians at the Metropolitan Museum.

It raises it exclusively for the Costume Institute at the Met, which the group that preserves historical clothing. I just… Fuck. Are you really serious? How the hell do you look at that amount of money, look at the people starving on the streets, and conclude that this is a worthwhile function. Thats just fucking insane.

Sorry, we can’t afford to build new housing or addiction centers, but thank God we can continue to preserve an evening dress from the 1940’s. That’s truly what matters in society.

There are multiple people in the world. Everyone doesn’t do the same thing at once, there can be many fundraisers at the same time, each with a different goal. It’s crazy i know…

The problem isn’t design, art, wonder and occasional luxury. The problem is wealth distribution.

The Met Gala just screams “Hunger Games” to me. Events like this are what society celebrates when it’s past it’s prime, bloated and diseased.

I feel like I’ve heard the name before but this year it seems to be much more prominent.

      Yes, it’s extraordinarily distasteful.

My distaste for billionaires has gone from “high” to “stratospheric” in the last 5 years or so. Quite incredible really.

I mean yeah but Heidi Klum dressing like a statue and scaring other attendees by pretending to be an exhibit is very funny to me

if the kids in the shallow pool crowded into the deep end, the deep end would be filled with drowned bodies, so let the shallow kids stay in the shallow end out of the deep divers way

I wanted to know who skipped the event after Bezos got involved but I found out it’s Zendaya and Lady Gaga and I realized I don’t really give a fuck.
