At Valve, we don’t just think outside the box. We ignore the box completely and invent a new way of thinking that makes the box feel inadequate and insecure. Sorry, box.

If Dbrand hadn’t fucked up so many times (like when they had to completely redesign their SteamDeck casing after it had already been released) and had better customer service I might be more interested but let’s just say I’m a bit skeptical here.

I just remember the original SteamDeck Killswitch case had the kickstand connect with a magnet, and the magnet was fucking with the ball-bearings in the internal fans and harming the longevity of the system fans for the SteamDeck and after they had already released it they had to completely redesign it with a physical latch instead of a magnet.

I mean that seems like such an obvious and short-sighted thing that they failed to even consider.

To be fair, according to them there were two Steam Deck fan variants and they only had units which were unaffected for testing.

          From their R*ddit post:

The Steam Deck that was unaffected had a Huaying fan.

The Steam Deck that was affected had a Delta fan.

We immediately cracked open all of our own Steam Decks. Sure enough, all of our fans were from Huaying

Valve could have printed money by charging $100+ more for a companion cube or Orange Box edition
