Yes, we still do that here.
wtf so not cool
reminds me of that german island town that went through the news last year for this tradition where masked men run through yhe streets and hit women using horns, and they tried to hide it from the greater public, because they knew exactly they would get shit for it
That’s Klaasohm in Borkum.
Yeah, women’s rights are OK on paper here but then they’re expected to show up for this (and be thankful and offer eggs, chlebíčky and alcohol in return)… At least they don’t really get hurt. As for trans rights, this tradition is way older than trans visibility so instances of crossing gender norms are handled on an individual basis.
At least they don’t really get hurt.
At least generally. Unfortunately, I don’t remember who told me that, although it was a “back in the day” thing, but someone told me they used to put pillows under their skirts, otherwise they couldn’t sit down the day after.
Might have been my grandmother, but I don’t remember anymore. And I’ve also seen some good point online about how kids can’t really opt out when their parents allow in some drunk men to drench them in water and whip them. Again, may not be the usual, but yeah…
I can’t speak for rural Moravia because I don’t live there but from what I heard they get really drunk on slivovitz (plum brandy). The whips are made of 8 (or thereabout, the form varies) willow or dogwood twigs. The way I make them, they are very flexible and don’t hurt at all and I don’t use the thick handle without the bows but I know people some people do. A good sign is that women in our village don’t run away: this means that they have realized they are more likely to hurt themselves in a chase.
Anyway…
Can't read cursive?
It reads “# you too”
