Twitch continues to deteriorate as a platform because what do you mean I can’t TAB OUT TO MY SECOND MONITOR DURING THE AD BREAK
I NEED TO FOCUS THE TAB AND THE WINDOW FOR THE AD TO PLAY???
This ad can’t play because I don’t watch twitch.
Okay, bye forever!
What’s the alternatives? Non-self hosting, and you know what, self-hosting because why not
Owncast is the self hosted stream thing. It has some rudimentary federation capibilities, but nowhere near the ease discovery of twitch.
I know some streamers that have an owncast, expired_popsicle uses debian Linux and has one. (It’s tech/linux streamers because of course).
Wtf, this is real?
Didnt you guys watch that black mirror episode? It was exactly like this. Look away from ads and you get punished.
Why the fuck does my browser need to send it the information that its muted or minimized?
I need everyone to look at what you can do with HTML5 “game engines”. You want mouse poisiton? You want to know if the mouse is in on the page or not? Internet speed? Audio card codec?
If a 13 years old using the free version of construct3 can do it, capitalism can do it.
Firefox has plugins to spoof specific tabs as always active.
You should link them so more people can find them easily.
You must be using one of those browsers from an ad company.
There aren’t really any others though, every browser these days is made by a company with corporate interests in mind, either their own, or someone paying them.
While it may be true that capitalism messes with all of them to some extent, I think there’s still a pretty wide chasm between a Firefox fork like LibreWolf or WaterFox versus just using a default install of Chrome or Edge.
It’s been a standard feature for a very long time I’m kind of surprised they’ve only just started making use of it but this kind of thing.
A lot of sites that play sounds will stop when you tap out of them otherwise they’re just plain sounds in the background and that’s kind of annoying.
And it’s not a bad feature to have for the functionality of some sites. It’s just that as with any feature/rule/etc it can be abused. So a toggle like (according to a comment above) some plugins add is an unfortunate necessity.
I think you can turn it off in settings
Because Browsers are corporate-built garbage which are designed with corporate interests in mind, same reason they choose to send good fingerprinting canvas data instead of sending randomized garbage every new session.
Firefox (fork) + uBlock?
that doesn’t work for twitch unfortunately :(
there used to be a different Firefox extension for just twitch which worked but idk what happened to it.
The way it worked was by taking the tiny steam of the creator that shows up when an ad plays and just scaled it up to cover the ad while muting it.well, it was an idea…
I’m sure there is a way to prevent this screen in particular, but IIRC Twitch simply doesn’t stream to you when there’s ads playing, or it’s hardcoded into the stream itself or something, so you’d be looking at a small audio-less preview if anything … & correct me if I’m wrong. I stopped using Twitch entirely because of this, though.
I dropped them like a bad habit when they first implemented the advertisements. I have never looked back.
I can’t stand Twitch. I don’t mind live streamers’ edited clips on YouTube but watching it live is just such a drag to me.
Nope I also don’t understand the appeal of streamers, even if they are content creators I actually like. The simultaneously huge long pauses while they’re doing something in the background, because no streamer ever seems to be able to get the setup working, and at the same time constant interaction with the comments. I get why it’s like that, but they are always them going on about subs and gifted subs, just get on with whatever it is that you’re streaming.
Joke’s on them, my computer doesn’t even know whether it’s muted or not.

Them bitches let ya know if you were getting a text. Loved that shit.
I had that exact model. Had a real satisfying click on the knob when you turned it on.
I hated how heavy that knob felt but the click was weirdly satisfying though
I think everyone had that model at one point.
Fuck I though this was a satirical shitpost but it’s real. This seems like the last stop before that patent about yelling the company name to get back to your content…

You’re gonna sit there and watch those PrizePicks and AI generated Kalshi ads and like it!
If it is publicly-traded, it will be enshittified. This is an ironclad, inviolable law.
I feel like what we’re witnessing is just the end of meaningful innovation in the IT field, so now comes the meaningless innovation.

Well, thank goodness Elon Musk took Twitter private, amirite?
Since it’s private, Elon could be content with a steady (adjusted for inflation) annual profit, which would allow him to make decisions that are good for the long-term health of the company.
He just sucks.
If it were public, he wouldn’t even have the option to not suck.
Which is why SpaceX is about to suck once they IPO :(
The original stated plan was no IPO until Mars transits were normal.
Yet another thing Elon lied about. Shocking.
I don’t care about any platform enough to be abused by it.

Mountain doo for me and you.
“Avoid minimizing or muting for a better experience” Wow, this is beyond nuts.
If i was a Twitch user, i’d dump this right now.
doesn’t amazon own twitch? It’s no surprise that they’re enshittifying at an alarming rate.
I wish I had an account so I could have the satisfaction of deleting it right now.
