    No, sorry mate. If you’re running your own instance, you gotta send your usename and password with every request, as the first line of the post. That way it gets interpret as a basic auth HTTP header and makes it able to federate to the main server.

        that is part of the joke, but i think the main part of the joke is that they’re responding to your comment asking if your comment federated in the negative, despite the fact that by being able to read and respond at all from another instance, it is clear that your comment did federate.
