If you can generate smooth looking hi-def images, that level of fidelity sort of becomes meaningless. So instead you start trying to emulate the cachet and charm of rough, hand-drawn images.

The tragedy being that this style is genuinely within anyone’s reach if they just opened up the most rudimentary paint program.
