It really depends on what they’re talking about. Engineering? Pretty valid unless you care about maintainability. Israel? Not valid. How many seeds should bread have? They’re basically a bird so take it as you will. Weird sex or clubbing? On a scale of Berlin to Bavaria…
It’s not wrong per se to be from Germany, nor to tave pride in where you came from. But displaying nationalism is that way is a surefire indicator of having bullshit opinions. No matter which country.
Tbh I don’t associate having a country flag on your profile with nationalism. As someone who attempts to not assume everyone on the internet is American I find them generally useful so I can better attempt to meet people where they are rather than exclusively use American examples.
Now if they’re out there waving german flags irl for no reason, then I’m side eyeing them and suspecting they might vote AfD
Is it possible that I’ll get some false positives? Sure. But it’s not like it’ll have any consequences online.
IRL, I even talk to AfD voters (because cancelling them is counter-productive). But I’m not gonna change anyone’s mind online, so my filter is more strict there.
German flag in username. Opinion super not valid.

“Actually Israel is defending itself and you’re antisemetic”
