Just FYI: The Guardian has the story on the carbon emissions of the current war: It places them at 5 million tons in 14 days. Which is a lot, but the USA alone produces 7 billion tons a year. This war is bad and shouldn’t have happened, but that doesn’t allow you to poison your neighbors by driving around in a broken car

Horrible pollution is just a footnote on the awful shit from war.
And yeah, poisoning your neighbors with emissions is also bad.
This is just some meme I found pointing out a minor hypocrisy going on at the moment.
I know it’s not necessarily just emissions, but leaded gasoline as well, but my father would often tell stories of the smog from the days when leaded gasoline was allowed. Even from his perspective of a diesel-loving man who denies climate change, he still recounts times of vehicles in front of him being completely obscured by their own emissions, and days when intersections themselves being coated with a subtle layer of gassy fumes.
Pedant here! The smog was a result of NOx emissions, not lead, but both were hazardous to public health which has always been the motivation for emission control.
Climate change concerns were just marketing on legislation. If climate change was the actual concern then there would have been smaller engines with better economy. But that would of course reduce oil demand so it’s commie shit.
That’s good to know! As burdensome as the current climate change debate is, it’s somewhat reassuring to know we’ve made more steps than I’d thought.
Can’t say everything Nixon did was bad, at least we had the EPA.
Don’t worry, they bought carbon credits from Elon Musk. Probably…
With the way things are going, emissions will be lower after most countries switch away from oil.
dont worry, coal-fired data centers will pick up the slack
Car inspection is done state by state and AFAIK not national. It’s implemented under the idea it could help the environment. In reality, as usual, it makes cars less accessible to poor people, and let’s people who “roll coal” in their new 0% down 50% APR 2027 Ford™️ F350®️ Pickup Truck that they only use to drive to their job as an accountant because they know they guy doing the inspection, do whatever the hell they want.
Not exactly govermint
Both things are bad. Stop being a selfish asshole.
I never said one wasn’t bad.
