I’m well aware of how it worked in San Andreas. Fable 3 tried to eliminate menus and it was by far the worst game in the series because of it.

This is 100% the case in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Male player character voice sounds absolutely ridiculous, like Christopher Nolan’s Batman but even worse.
