Tubi has the most batshit plots for their original movies and production looks so half-assed that I’m legitimately confused how they are still in business.
The differences between Tubi and Netflix originals today are basically just production values and whether they’re paying for their screenwriting LLM or not, lol.
That’s literally how Roger Corman ran his production studio and how famous directors like James Cameron got their start. Corman hired students and fresh grads to make movies that were expected to be shit, sold as the second half of the A/B double feature, the B movie.
it is a popular ‘free’ offering on most streaming devices and televisions (pihole works), plus the web site (dlp works on some). a lot of what they have is junk or on pretty much every other free service, but there’s always something to watch or rewatch on it.

These jank movies do have a function.
People gotta learn to use cameras and decorate sets and shit. Might as well make a dumb movie out of it and hope to sell a few units.

FWIW at least half of the movies mentioned on !bmoviebonanza@lemmy.world are on tubi.
Napoleon Dynamite was low budget and out there
