It was pretty hostile but there was a lot of democratic process and the key thing was the ratcheting up over a good 10 years before they really went for power. They would take small pieces of power and grow their control incrementally until they had too much momentum for any other group to deal with them. Also some groups thought they could use them to their advantage and reign them in when things were sorted. They were getting the highest votes but it was a mixture of a lot of things and they pretty quickly stopped being democratic votes after the first few elections. Lots of propaganda, a large amount of coercion at least initially, some blindness and unforeseen consequences but a decent portion of the population supported the whole thing. At least that’s my understanding.

Yeah why would someone not want that?

2·3 months agoHere in the UK you can get some home-bake pastry tubes that look identical to that and you also twist open them. Things like a roll of proto-pan au chocolat or the big raw cinnamon roll. You just slice them up and cook
Yeah I should have clarified, there’s some decent ones but the chance of them getting anything is fleeting. I voted green last election actually.
Yeah, though it’s not confined to just the NHS given some of the recent rhetoric I’ve been seeing. Obviously the transphobia is bad but it’s potentially marginally better than also being bankrupted by it. Not trying to step on the very real issue of the transphobia here though. Sucks that we don’t really have any good parties to be voting for right now…
Reminds me of when I was doing driving practice with my mum before I got my license, turned off the main road onto what I thought was just a small residential street and quickly realised it was a shared driveway type thing for maybe 4 houses. Anyway this guy is watching the whole time from his garage workshop thing and halfway through me turning to leave he knocks on the window and basically says I can’t go in there and I should turn around in the space between the road and the outer edge of the pavement. I didn’t think I had enough room to do that safely and he cast doubts on my fitness to drive. I would have already left by then. Anyway I passed like a month later. I wasn’t on his part of that drive and had no plans of ever going there again. If he didn’t want people occasionally turning onto that spot he shouldn’t have chosen a house by the main road. Actual clown, I’m still annoyed.
I like the fried chicken baguette, the mexican bean flatbread thing and the katsu slices but I don’t think they do those anymore. The steak bakes are alright too
Best place to have fish and chips is near or on a beach in overcast weather. It’s a vibe. Pasties are definitely worth trying if you like pies and things. Greggs is worth a look. I think a lot of the bad press on our food is because so much of it doesn’t go for any kind of presentation, it just happens.

12·10 months agoSteam on the whole is alright, obviously there are things that could be better but it works well as a centralised distribution platform with some nice extras. Ofc it’s still DRM but it’s probably the best way you’re ever going to see said DRM.
See, I actually found OneDrive really useful with the whole integrations and coming with every Windows. The thing I don’t appreciate is how pushy they are with it. Like holy shit michaelsoft, just let people do their thing.

3·10 months agoSo I’m not sure how reliable it is given the age of the data but it looks like there’s some indication that “they” fell in use up to the late 1900s but before ~1860 it was actually more common than now. I’m now curious if there’s any more info on this.

11·10 months agoTbh just saying they is easier, took a few weeks/months to train myself to do it and now I’m just cringing whenever I hear something that’s like “he or she could be doing this thing” when “they” is just more efficient anyway. They’re just as established. I think “they” is an older term but I’d have to look into the etymology on that.

Looks like the front of a bike to me, admittedly a weirdly shaped and pretty roughed up bike but still pretty definitively bike looking.
