Yeah, I had a realization after the election that I was basically consuming news as entertainment in place of other things I could be reading or doing. I’m voting, I’m attending protests, knowing more isn’t going to change anything. It’ll just make me feel worse.

I wish apps would just stop being coy with notification settings. Like it’d be cool to be notified when my eBay order is delivered. But if I just want that, I need to manually disable:

    • Auction Updates
    • Offer updates
    • Order updates
    • Listing help
    • Messaging
    • Personalized recommendations
    • Rewards and offers
    • General promotions
    • Item ending
    • Item updates
    • Auction updates
    • Offer updates
    • Cart updates
    • eBay live (whatever the hell that is)

You can flip one switch to disable all, but if you want any one of them, you need to manually disable each and they’re split between four sub-menus.

Multiply this by 20-30 apps because every parking garage and water fountain needs an app now, and it’s a nightmare.

I carry a dumbphone now and wear a Casio.

We had a black cable with a box at the end dangling from the utility lines across the street from our house for like six months. The box was suspended like 2 feet off the ground and the neighbors even parked their cars around it.

Anyway, internet goes out one night at 3am, and sure enough, I could hear some bolt cutters on my security camera followed by a person walking in frame to look at our mailbox (which is locked).

Talked to the guy repairing it a few days later and he confirmed it was just fiber.

    What a tool.

  • To explain your downvotes.

Women were encouraged to join the work force on top of all of the parenting/wifely duties they were saddled with for generations. This was a lot of work, but it also provided a glimpse into financial independence and equal placement in the workplace for the first time.

But when the war was over, women were encouraged to jump right back into the kitchen.

should men returning from war not be entitled to their job back

There are many jobs that need to be done to make society work. There are plenty of jobs at home that they could have taken.

  • a loan for a used car sounds wild to me.

Predatory car loans has entered the chat.

I don’t know about Carvana, but plenty of scummy dealers will give insane rates to people with no credit check, repo the car while they’re still underwater on the loan, and sell it to someone else. You can have two or three people paying off the same car.

Oh, also, they somehow encourage the most gullible people who can’t afford their loans to just let the car get reposessed instead of attempting to sell it back to the dealer.
