Black tea refers to the visible degree of oxidation of the tea leaves - yellow, white and green teas all do the same thing. Similarly, white grapes are called that because they produce white (clear) liquid (though it’s clearly yellowish so they should really be called yellow grapes…).
As far as I’m aware, humans have only two natural phobias (a fear of heights and of loud noises). Everything else, disliking spiders, snakes, rats, big larvae, is learned cultural behavior and can be reversed (heights and loud noises can be reversed too, but it’s much harder). Happily this means you can join us in appreciating the cute buggies if you really want!
Omg is that critter in the 1st image real? Its so cute tell me it’s not AI

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•surely your hobby can't be that expensive
4·3 days agoI’ve found Rhodia is very inconsistent with their production quality (and I don’t love waxed papers), but for flip notebooks/sketchbooks they’re a solid choice.
For calligraphy, Tomoe River is a classic (even after the whole sanzen drama its still great paper), but I also really love Iroful, Canson Imagine 200gsm, and any of the Strathmore Mixed Media papers. It depends on the ink I’m using and the effect I’m going for, really, but if I had to pick one Iroful is probably the best all-round calligraphy paper (better shading than TR but with less impressive sheening)

8·4 days agoI’ve been into calligraphy for years now - it’s a wonderful hobby with anywhere between absolutely none (pseudocalligraphy with a pencil/bic) and a very low cost to entry (blackletter with a parallel pen) that I seriously encourage anyone to try out! Just be warned that it’s a gateway drug to the fountain pen hobby, which uh.
…
…
quickly becomes a not-cheap hobby. Good god.

Not part of the hobby I have had much interaction with so that’s just really interesting! Thank you!
Oh to be clear I think it’s pretty creepy - I’m just never going to argue you shouldn’t be allowed to post it. Emphatically not my thing, but not everything is and that’s fine.
Genuinely glad you have had it confirmed that at least one subject is comfortable with it. Not judging I swear: is consent of the subject something you seek out before writing the fics or is it just, like a bonus?
Eeh, while real-person fanfic is a little contentious it’s by no means “not allowed” in fanfic.

Nope, nope, take it all back we’re totally wrong - it’s a true funicular, the cars just get electrical supply via overhead cable
Yeah that’s the cable I was talking about, I didn’t think it was visible in the image but realized you can see it on the second track.
You’re right, though! This is a true funicular (a few people are saying it can drive single cars but operates primarily in couterbalance which I would kill to get to poke around the mechanical room to see how that works)
What’s in the image is (catenary) cable but funiculars use a counterbalanced mechanical cable system
edit: oh, do you mean the cable laid in the tracks? That’s the cable hoist - but the cars aren’t counterbalanced so it’s not a funicular, it’s just a cable-car. A meaninglessly pedantic distinction in the real world *but in this house we commit to the bitnope I was hoisted by my own pedanticard on this one, it’s a true funicular just in an arrangement I’ve never seen before.
You might just be good at identifying artistic styles - It is in japan. I think it’s only prejudiced if you think it’s somehow a negative thing for it to be japanese?
Poor neurotypical bastard…
Yeah, they’re a regular boring cat-shaped urban inclined railway. Side view here makes it pretty clear:

The full article does in fact address this! I perhaps should have been more clear about what a natural phobia is and included a long rambling bit about how the visual processing stuff is being poorly explained in that article - recognition of the patterns they’re talking about are absolutely present but do not contribute a fear response in their own. The important part however is that they can be reversed!
