If its a Linux phone then wouldn’t it just be SteamOS? So they wouldn’t be bothering with trying to enter Android since it’d be Linux, so trying to start a whole new market on Android and convincing people to release Android games to Steam to have games to play wouldn’t be an issue. Maybe frameworks running arm is a test for that.

And I’d imagine the phone would be something like the Sony Xperia Play in terms of design.

The one that you could slide out to find it has dpad and buttons to use for games.

Steam Xperia Linux phone would be a dream. I think if a Steam phone did well then other companies like Asus would jump into Linux phone.

Then suddenly we get mainstream alternatives to Android.

I play rhythm games like taiko and I’d say it still doesn’t come anywhere close to being as physically demanding as fencing, which you’d have a terrible time if out of shape with the amount of cardio, flexibility, and body control required.

So comparing gaming at a high level as being as physically demanding as fencing is just odd to me. Now mentally exhausting and needing quick reflexes yes, but in the realm of gaming it’d have to be VR based to be able to make physically demanding arguments if comparing to fencing. With fencing being an actual cardio driven sport you need to be in great shape for.

I don’t much like the idea because video games are company driven. Like Apex exists only because of EA so its an advertising platform for EA. Unlike sports like basketball or tennis a video game like Apex or CS can’t exist independent of the company that owns it.

Even playing it you are reliant on their servers unlike basketball where you can play it at a random park without the permission of EA allowing access. Different companies can start leagues for sports like basketball, but nobody really owns or controls who can play the sport.

Maybe if some open source truly community run game was chosen.

If someone has a PC they may be more likely to use it to game and also to pirate games and mod games. That can actually lead to learning quite a bit about computers when it comes to the file system which lot of people don’t understand these days, and also following instructions when it comes to completing computer tasks. That sets a pretty good basic starting point. It can also lead to wanting to build their own PC and watch more tech related content.

So can push people from just a simple media consumption device to wanting to tinker.
