I think of quake 4. I like quake 4. It was not directed towards the original quake audience, though, which is why it’s a bad quake game. It’s kinda the same story with Quake Wars: Enemy Territory.

I’d say it’s a very similar thing with Doom 3. Q4 and D3 are both cinematic, linear, horror shooters, and they’re awesome in that regard. They fail at being movement shooters for the most part.

  • 4 Sig figs vs 9 Sig figs is a big gap. If you need your resistors in a circuit to be precise to 9 Sig figs, seek a new career.

It is almost always possible to take a system and make it more precise by using more precise parts (just gotta make sure you know what part you are changing to improve what tolerance). You do get diminishing returns with that, but it beats inventing a new system if the tolerances you need are just alittle ways away.

  • It wore off, and I haven’t had that experience since. There was a solid week after, though, where I was paranoid that I would go back into that hallucination. I imagine that’s fairly normal.

I could definitely see the ‘flipbook’ effect experienced being heavily influenced by past experiences. The ‘wheel’, though, is a massive circular thing of colors and geometries, so it’s not really based on any experiences. The depictions of the samsara do have interesting similarities, and it would not surprise me if ancient people tripped, then tried to describe the trip they had, and came back with the samsara. I could also see how describing the wheel as having many eyes could make it fit the description of biblically accurate angels.

  • The whole seeing the universe is probably not just because we invented wheels. There’s been many people who’ve all described seeing different versions of “The Wheel” during salvia trips - but also in near death experiences sometimes.

It’s quite possible that these types of hallucinations could have contributed to the concept of the samsara, and possibly angels and other concepts relating to divinity.

Edit: to add personal anecdote, I’ve previously seen this hallucination after taking a bad rip off a bong. No one else had issues. My guess is that my brain was not getting enough oxygen since I was having trouble breathing. I basically tripped this while laying face down on a bean bag for several hours.

  • A thing to note is that it’s socially okay to call people we dislike stupid because our society is naturally intellectually ableist. We are saying that a person has reached their incorrect views because they’re mentally handicapped, rather than pointing to other reasons for their intellectual failings.

At the same time, we’ve grown up in this environment and it’s difficult to remove that kind of language without some habits to replace it.
