  • I was there in the first Qanon post. I thought it was a genius troll and made a few bait posts myself. Then all the normies came over and started talking about bread on facebook. That’s when I knew the containment had been breached and we were in for a wild few years…

  • Superman makes for great stories, as long as you don’t focus on his power. You can’t beat him with physical strength, so stop trying to write strong villains. Probably stop writing villains at all. What Superman struggles with isn’t physical embodiments of evil, it’s the good intentions paving the way to hell. You can’t punch a person with good intentions for their bad outcomes. It’s hard being the ultimate arbiter of good in a world of complex morality.

  • Could be lots of downtime, meaning lots of time to watch anime? But I also think there’s way more weebs than people think and it’s mainly in dangerous jobs like military that people lose their inhibitions, stop giving a fuck and just start bonding over whatever they like. Anime is just weird enough to be kept hidden initially, but also harmless enough to admit to your buddies.

Before liftoff, [Gayle] King – who co-hosts CBS Mornings – said she was approaching the rocket trip with trepidation. “I still get very uncomfortable when people say ‘astronaut’,” she said. “I in no means feel like an astronaut. They said: ‘But, Gayle, if you go to space, you’re an astronaut.”

Stepping on a boat doesn’t make you a sailor.

This wasn’t an “all-female mission”, but the equivalent of the women-only carriage on a metro. Or more like a limo, actually, because you don’t need a billionaire’s personal invitation to ride the metro.

  • I had the same experience, but I recently helped my sister with a homework essay and she had a full page with the exact requirements and how they were graded.
90% of the points were for content, the types of arguments, proper structure and such. Only 10% were for spelling and punctuation.
Meaning she could hand in a complete mess, but as long as her argument was solid and she divided the introduction, arguments and conclusion into paragraphs, she’d still get a 9/10. No grumpy teachers docking half her grade for a few commas. She gets similar detailed instructions for every subject where I used to struggle with vague assignments like “give a good presentation”. It was so bad sometimes, the teacher let the class grade each other.

(Note we aren’t American, not even English.)

  • Imagine being in 2018+7 and after finally abandoning the sewer of the internet and moving to barely-an-improvement Bluesky, you take a screenshot of your Bluesky post, open the bane of civilization, the killer of democracy, the Guantanamo Bay of the digital world, motherfucking Facebook and pretend like you’re an upstanding, principled citizen.

Oh, but actually his post is the lowest of the low, making potshots at the sheep instead of addressing the policy itself. Declaring English the official language is the virtue-signaling of the right. Nobody cares about the actual goal, implementation or effects of such a declaration; the politicians and their voters and Steve here only care about the optics.

  • I did two runs, the first ended at 177 (three more greens than 76%of respondents), the second at 174 (the exact median). I think the methodology is flawed, there’s a little randomness at the threshold so you need to gather more data to be certain of a person’s perception. You’ll see that the same hue can seem bluer when it follows a strong green, or greener when it follows a weak green.

Edit: did a third run, this time staring at a white wall for 5 seconds between each color and responding as quickly as possible. Got 170, way over in the green. A lot of it looked like a pale blue sky.

There’s something weird about the naming scheme here.

    1. Article about X0 (Air Bud)
    2. List of articles about X1 (Dogs playing basketball)
    3. Lists of articles about X2 (Dogs playing sports)
    4. List of lists of lists

Level 3 should have been “List of lists of articles”. And if 4 had been fully specified as “List of lists of lists of articles about X3”, it wouldn’t contain itself.

    The real “scorched earth” strategy:

    1. Format system drive
    2. Reinstall Arch
    3. Keep all your files on the data drive
    4. Run your personal setup script to put everything back how you like it
    5. (Optional) Be happy

Edit: forgor 6. Tell everyone you use Arch
