  • Well to be fair it also has a really nice cnc aluminum enclosure, high quality mechanical switches suitable for live performance, and is hand assembled by one guy.

And to be even more fair, he made the software available. So if you want to just buy the $35 controller and build your own enclosure for cheap then you can with no real restrictions, which is awesome.

Imo it’s a great price for a small batch boutique item; it’s cheaper than a lot of plasticky buggy grooveboxes being put out by major corporations. It’s very high on my list of things to pick up if I become suddenly wealthy lol

  • Yeah the body compensates for it to an extent.

You know how lot of people report exercise makes them feel better? Releases dopamine, relaxes them. A result is that they actually fidget less, their heart rate slows, and other energy burning processes in their body relax.

The buffer is relatively large in fact, like possibly over 200-400 calories per day depending on the person. I think of it as the body’s flywheel for keeping an energy balance.

One should keep exercising, for the numerous benefits. There also is a point where you are burning calories that need to be made up (either through eating or weight loss), ask any endurance athlete. Just not likely to hit the threshold in 20 mins on the treadmill, which is what many people do for exercise

  • I was planning to write up a longer response but the other one you got is very detailed and accurate. But yeah basically cutting carbs just makes you miserable and makes it harder to exercise. The reason it’s a popular recommendation is because it often causes a very dramatic (but very temporary) drop in water weight. So people torture themselves for a month, lose 20 pounds on the scale, and are forevermore convinced that they have “cracked the code” on weight loss. They rarely mention that they instantly regained all of the weight when they inevitably quit the diet lol

It’s sadly very difficult to find good information because of how much noise and misinformation there is out there. I apologize if this sounds conspiratorial, but even primary care doctors are a pretty poor source of info as they receive no special training in weight loss. Whole situation is just a mess tbh

Something cool to check out is the national weight control registry, which is the largest study of people who have lost significant amounts of weight and kept it off.

    http://www.nwcr.ws/Research/default.htm

We can see that most people who are successful don’t rely on some sketchy elimination diet, but rather build a lifestyle around more simple things. Such as having breakfast every day, prioritizing exercise, and keeping an eye on their weight by weighing regularly

  • Derek is a pretty awful person, as a heads up.

Spoilers for nsfw just in case

    Tap for spoiler

But yeah apart from his ridiculous manosphere misinformation in general (such as telling his audience masturbation causes penal atrophy), he recently read through some laughably, obviously fake Imane Khelif rage bait and concluded that any abuse she receives is completely justified unless she releases scans of her genitals. Is that really where we’re at, Derek? Mandatory public genital scans of any female athlete at the request of any transvestigator? Overall he’s just a pretty serious loser tbh, altho I have to admit taking down Liver King was rad
